Future Students: How to Apply

McFatter Technical High School is a public magnet school with a theme of Technical Education. Our students graduate with both the academic requirements necessary for entry into post-secondary education (college) as well as technical training in one of 29 technical career choices.

Entrance requirements are:

  1. Have at least a 2.5 GPA in the four core classes (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) on the most recent report card.
  2. Level 3 or higher in both FSA/EOC Math and Reading from the previous school year. If the FSA is not available, at least 50th percentile in Math and Reading on most nationally recognized standardized test will be accepted.

We accept only 150 students per each grade level (grades 9 - 12). The application window opens each year based on the district's time line found at https://browardschools.com/schoolchoice. Applications can only be accepted at www.browardschools.com/schoolchoice. LATE applications will be placed in the wait pool and up for acceptance only after the ON TIME group of applicants is exhausted. 

Application Process: 

Applications are only received through the FOCUS Parent Portal. 
Step One: Create or Login to BCPS FOCUS Parent Portal Account by going to https://browardschools.focusschoolsoftware.com/focus/auth. (Detailed instructions are available below. For general guidance and videos on Focus and its features, please visit https://browardschools.com/focushelp.)


Step Two: Link your Child to Your Focus Parent Portal Account, if you have not already done so. You need the BCPS Student ID Number to link. (Any local Broward County Public School can assist with creating a student number with your ID and the student's birth certificate)


Step Three: Under the student's name, select BCPS Magnet Program Application. McFatter Technical College is under TECHNICAL ACADEMIES.


Step Four: Upload any necessary documentation


Step Five: Submit Application

To verify the status of the application, check the SCHOOL CHOICE option in the same area of your FOCUS account.  
 

NOTE: Transportation is only available to students who live at least TWO miles from McFatter, south of Sunrise Boulevard, and in Broward County.
